To incentivize involvement in the 2023 Americanism Essay
contest Saint Louis #9 offered monetary rewards for competitors which led to recognition in the Hall of America February 8th

YES!!! Our first American Essay Contest entrant has been received so keep them coming.

* The All-American Contest A Committee is rewarding the top three essays with checks for $100 (1st), $75 (2nd), and 3rd ($50) in addition to what the Grand Lodge may reward next summer (see below) *

Essays must be handed in at the club room prior to December 14th or text Tim Luby @ 314-486-2675 who may pick up at your home. Essays can be from 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders on the topic of, “What the Bill of Rights Means to Me” ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Bill_of_Rights ), are to be typed (or written), not to exceed 300 words, and must be submitted by December 14th.

Of the 72 Lodges in Missouri Let’s submit the most essays in the State!

Americanism Essay Contest, “Theme: “What the Bill of Rights Means to Me.”
Rules; 1. At the time of the contest, eligible participants must be Students enrolled in one of these four divisions: I-5th grade; II-6th grade; III-7th grade; or IV-8th grade. 2. Essay length is not to exceed 300 words. 3. Essay must be typed or legibly printed in ink. Also, Essay must be submitted as written (or typed) by the entrant. 4. Essay must be submitted for judging to the Elks Lodge nearest to the address of the entrant. 5. Participant must be identified by name, grade, school attending and sponsoring Elks Lodge on the Essay.

AWARDS: Plaques will be awarded by Grand Lodge for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place for national winning essays in Divisions I, II, III, and IV. Monetary awards will be disbursed for each grade level for 1st Place – $1,000; 2nd Place – $500; and 3rd Place – $250.

Winners will be announced at the Grand Lodge Session in Austin, TX, June 30– July 3, 2024. 

Let’s get at least 10 essays (hand in at the bar) which will eventually end up in the coffers of the Contest A Group who’ll judge and award the best three from #9.  We’ll be awarding $100 for the 1st, $75 for the 2nd, and $50 for the 3rd. I’m expecting all Antlers (more on that in January) to submit essays and remember, “Ask not what your Lodge can do for you – ask what you can do for your lodge.
