Prior to teeing off Exalted Ruler AJ Ford had attendees speak the Pledge of Elegance followed by Elizabeth Makulec’s speech…

Thank you so much, Elks #9 and past and current Golf Committees for recognizing Pete is such a generous way.  If you ever had a conversation with Pete, it didn’t take long to learn he was a fan and player of all things sports – swimming, football, softball, hockey and golf topped topped his list.

He was an organizer extraordinaire known for his football and basketball Super Squares pools, Full Fall Foliage winery tours, Super Bash Super Bowl parties and one-club golf outings here in Forest Park.

Pete had a lifelong commitment to bettering his community through philanthropy, evidenced by his support of the American Cancer Society, co-chairing the KUTO Tee it Up for Teens Golf Classic, coordinating Red Cross Blood Drives and health fairs, volunteerism with CBRE Cares, and membership in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.  He was proud to have served St. Louis Elks Lodge #9 as Exalted Ruler, modeling the principles of charity, justice, brotherly love and fidelity.

Friendship was a priority for Pete.  He seldom met a stranger and built a ‘family of friends’ throughout his lifetime in states across the country.

Pete had a huge heart and kind, gracious soul.  He was quick with a pun or bad joke and often made you feel like you were the most important person in the room.

Pete was the kind of friend a friend would like to have – genuine, straight-shooter, supportive, a whole lot of fun, a gentleman of integrity. Pete will be sorely missed by all who loved him, knew him or simply crossed his path.

I know Pete is proud that this year’s committee has determined proceeds from this event will further the Elks mission – the Elks National Foundation – to help Elks build stronger communities, the #9 Scholarships for members children and relatives higher education, and the newly formed History Committee in their effort to best recognize the rich history of #9, the significant impact #9 has had across the St. Louis region – and more importantly, to clean out the basement of the lodge.

Again, thanks for this gracious and generous recognition of Pete – there was nothing more he enjoyed than a loop around the course with friends old and new.

Best of luck to you all, and have a terrific day!
